ACV Rinse & Itchy Scalp: “Ask the Nappturalite Guru!”

On Sunday I had the honor of making appearance number two on Nappturalite Radio.

I and Cassidy, of Natural Selection, participated in the show’s very first “Ask the Nappturalite Guru” segment.

We spoke on the purpose of an apple cider vinegar rinse, ways to combat itchy scalp, and how to create fullness when your natural hair is thin.

Soy Thwaites, of Salon Soy, also shared tips on how to achieve a healthy blow-out.

Natural Hair Coloring at Too Groovy Salon in Atlanta

The Big Reveal…My New Hair Color!

On Sunday, February 12th I made my way to Too Groovy Salon in midtown Atlanta to have my hair colored by Too Groovy’s founder & owner Robin Groover!

Before Robin jumped into coloring my hair she and I sat down and discussed the current condition of my mane.

We chatted about some of my challenges (dryness) and overall hair goals. After doing so we then talked about what my vision was for my “new look.”

Hair dying

So, I’m Having My Hair Colored This Weekend…

After two years of being natural I have finally decided to step out on a limb and do something exciting with my hair.

I am thrilled (and a bit nervous to say) I’m having my hair colored this weekend at Atlanta’s Too Groovy Salon.

This is my first time having my hair professional dyed as a “natural.” I experimented with henna in the beginning of my journey (check that out here) but have never lifted or lightened my hair with a chemical.

My Big Chop

My Story: Two Years Natural!

February 3, 2012 marked two years since I BC’d (big chopped)!

These 730 days have literally flown by and I can’t believe my hair has grown as much as it has.

My journey to natural hair began first as a quest for healthy hair. Before becoming natural I struggled, for many years, with a broken and damaged mane.

I felt as if I had tried everything under the sun to “get my hair to grow.” So, naturally, I decided to try the “going natural thing,” as I then called it.

Megu Resturant New York

New York in 1 Post: Mondrian Hotel, Ouidad Salon & Megu

Last week I made my way to New York to attend Motion’s Cocktail Luncheon showcasing their new natural hair care line Naturally You. As promised, here is rundown of how I spent my time in the Big Apple.

First, I checked into the super chic Mondrian in Soho. This beautiful boutique hotel is located on a bricked street in the city and unlike other hotels, it doesn’t have a huge sign announcing it presence. Instead, it has a small sign amidst an arch of greenery.

Let’s Start This Year Off Right: My 2012 Hair Resolutions

It’s 6:19 am on Wednesday, January 4th and I’m just realizing I haven’t made any 2012 Hair Resolutions.

To start this year off right, (well, I’m 4 days late but you get the picture) I’m going to list my hair plans & goals for 2012.

My 2011 Hair Resolution’s were short & sweet. I think I’ll do the same for this year.

Holiday Makeover with Design Essentials

Straight Hair!: My Holiday Makeover by Design Essentials

On December 6th I was the excited recipient of a Holiday Makeover courtesy of Design Essentials!

I anxiously made my way to DE’s Atlanta research lab that Monday afternoon to have my hair “beautified” by a member of the Design Essentials team.

Upon entry into Design Essentials office I was pleasantly greeted and then escorted through the building to a full service salon.

To begin my makeover, stylist, and Design Essentials Educator, Francesa Adams, surveyed my hair asked me a few questions about my maintenance routine and then immediately go to work.

Spelman Holiday Makeover & Hair Debate

Spelman College Hosts Holiday Hair Debate

Last night I had the pleasure of participating in Spelman College’s Holiday Hair Debate.

Spelman’s Atrium was filled with hair enthusiasts, and fans alike, ready to listen, learn, and chat.

Lexi, of Curls, Coils and Kinks, Lawrence, of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and myself made up the panel for this organized discussion of African American hair.

We dished about Black hair in the media, our personal influences and experiences, and proper hair care. Lawrence shared in-depth & knowledgeable explanations on how to select the proper hair stylist for relaxers and “weave installations.”

thanks

A Moment of Thanks…

On Thanksgiving Day, as I sit amongst my sleeping family, it’s 7:00 am and as usually I’m the first one out of bed, I can’t help but feel “thankful.”

Cliché I know; but bear with me. :)

99% of the time Me, My Hair & the City is full of beauty products, natural hair talk, event recaps, and fashion finds. I rarely share the extrememly personal or, as some call it, raw side of me.

Natural Hair & Fashion!: CBBW 4th Annual Family Health & Beauty Expo

This weekend attended The Center for Black Women’s Wellness 4th Annual Family Health & Beauty Expo.

This free event offered health screenings & sessions discussing health issues that affect African American women.

In addition to the wonderful resources that were provided to its attendees, the Family Health & Wellness Show also hosted a Naturally Fierce Hair & Fashion Show. To my extreme delight I was chosen to participate!

As we displayed our natural hair, outfitted in the best The Gap had to offer, Lexi, of Curls, Coils & Kinks, Elaine of Atlanta Natural Hair Care, BossyGirl1980, Mhe Magazine & I strutted our stuff.
