Hair Break…More Like Hair Pause!
May 10th, 2012
Adrienne I tried; I really did! But, as of this Tuesday my hair break came to an abrupt end.
After seven full days of box braid bliss I had to say bye bye.
There is no way I can deny that I desperately wanted a chic hairstyle to give me a break from my mane. I spelled it all out in this post.
But, when the itching started I HAD to bring it to an end. Thus, my hair break became a hair pause.
Guess Who Got Their Box Braids!?
May 2nd, 2012
Adrienne Last week I shared with you all my longing for a much needed hair break. I had a strong interest in, traveling back in “hair time” to get some 1993 Poetic Justice-ish braids.
Well, It’s official! I’m all braided up, *does cabbage patch*, and I am LOVING IT!
So, how and where was this done? Well, on Sunday evening I stopped by the beauty supply store and, with the help of Lexi, (I wasn’t sure what colored I needed) picked up 6 packs of Kanekalon Synthetic Braiding Hair.
Poetic Justice circa 1993 Box Braids? Yes Please!
April 25th, 2012
Adrienne Ok, extreme moment of honesty…I’m tired of my hair!
Don’t get me wrong, I love my tresses; but I am over all the washing, deep conditioning, air drying, braiding and so on and so forth.
I need a hair break!
I long for the luxury of not having to wake up each morning and untwist my hair or figure out, after realizing my bonnet came off during the night, how I’m going to style a Gumby fro.

“Bold Spring” Makeover with Smashbox & Ulta
March 15th, 2012
Adrienne Yesterday evening I made my way over to Ulta to partake in their 21 Days of Beauty. As luck would have it, it was “Smashbox Day” and I was one of many recipients of a free makeover.
To being my transformation Ulta make-up artist Kristia asked me about my skin and what look I would like to try. Having no place to go, but home, I told her to do as she pleased.
How’s the Color Treating You?: My “Post Dye” Update
March 12th, 2012
Adrienne It has officially been one month since I had my hair colored at Too Groovy Salon. Check out the process here.
Recently, Me, My Hair & the City reader Dana asked how my colored hair was “treating” me thus far. She said:
“I have a question about your hair post dye. Have you found that your curl pattern has changed? How do you keep it hydrated?”
Here’s my response:
My hair’s curl pattern has not changed. However, when bleach is used to lightened natural hair, it is possible for someone’s textures to be compromised.

No Radio, Oh the Memories…My First Car Story
March 7th, 2012
Adrienne Does the thought of your first car bring back great memories?
For me, the thought of my little green sedan brings flashbacks of excitement, independence and laughter.
I recently visited FirstCarStory.com and created a video (check it out below) detailing the story of my first car. Before heading to the site I hadn’t thought much about “The Rice Eater” as my parental unit called it. After all, it’s many years and several cars later.
Hair Attitudes: Relaxed or Natural – Are Our Experiences the Same?
March 1st, 2012
Adrienne In Fall 2011 Sofn’free GroHealthy & Sister 2 Sister Magazine conducted the survey Hair Attitudes: Finding Strands of Truth Behind Style and Images.
This hair focused questionnaire was taken by 700+ women who identified themselves as “black, Latina, or bi-racial.”
Questions ranged from “how much money do you spend on your hair per month,” “how many hair products do you use daily”, and what is the biggest determining factor in a woman’s overall look.”
The survey spells out some interesting findings; but what I found most compelling was the similarities between responses from women with relaxed and natural hair.
