“Dark Girls”: African American Women Address Their Struggles with Skin Tone

While getting my daily dose of fab from Fashion Bomb Daily I came across a post containing a preview of the upcoming documentary Dark Girls.

This video explores ” the deep-seated biases and attitudes about skin color—particularly dark skinned women, outside of and within the Black American culture.”

Booty Pop

“Booty Pop:” Is It That Serious?

While rummaging through the clearance section at Ross, to my surprise, I picked up an interesting item labeled Booty Pop.

Booty Pop, which packaging and name mimics that of Blow Pop, claims to take you “from flat to fab in a pop.” Simply put, it increases the size of your posterior region. How could something in such a small package do that you might ask?

Well, Booty Pop is a pair if panties which, to the wearer’s convenience, has some extra junk in the truck. Yes, panties with a built in butt!

Frizzy Twist Out

How Are Your Wearing Your Hair Today?

If you follow me on Twitter you know I often tweet about my hair. The ups, the down; the highs & lows; and especially how much I dislike sitting under a hooded hair dryer. :)

Well this morning I engaged in a “I love my hair” tweet fest with a few fellow natural hair ladies. We shared what hairstyles we are wearing for the day & why we are “feeling” our hair.

Today I’m rocking a big fluffy twist out and loving every frizzy, and mildly defined, curl!

What’s Your “Go-To” Guide for Fashion & Beauty?

We all have a “go-to” guide for style & beauty tips. It may be a particular magazine, an extremely fashionable relative, or maybe even our own stylish know-how.

I love to browse magazines for the latest tips, trends & tricks. I find the glossy pages and brand editorials to be a great way to stay abreast of recent happening and to enhance my fashion knowledge.

What about yourself? What are some of your favorite fashion & beauty resources? Are you an avid Essence or Lucky reader? Or do you get your style & beauty fix from Elle and Glamour.

Which New York “Natural Hair Monument” Should I Visit?

This week I am traveling to New York for a mini vacation & to attend a beauty event hosted by Organic Beauty Vixen.

As we all know, “The Big Apple” is home to a number of popular natural hair brands. It would be great to stop by one of these staple stores and snap a few photos to share with you all.

Unfortunately, with all the excitement of my upcoming trip, I cannot decide which “natural hair monument” to visit. I need your help!

Flat Twist Out- Natural Hairstyle

What’s Your Favorite Hairstyle?

It’s Monday! You know what that means, another installment of Me, My Hair & the City’s “Question of the Week!”

This week I thought we would discuss hairstyles; two strand twists, puffs, up-dos, & twist outs to name a few.

With natural hair the styling possibilities are virtually endless! We can straighten it, curl it, twist it, & even fluff it. However, although our natural hair allows us the awesome ability to “switch it up” every now & then, we tend to play favorites.

What Do You Love to Wear During Spring?

The first day of Spring, March 20th, is swiftly approaching. What better way to prepare for its arrival than to think warm and place those Winter pieces in the back of the closet.

In my dreams my “perfect” spring wardrobe would consist of dresses, cropped jeans, light blazers, printed tops, flirty skirts and tons of sandals.

I absolutely cannot get enough of sandals: thong, gladiator, wedge and even bedazzled. My obsession with these foot revealing shoes is yet another fashion addiction I’m not quite ready to break.

Do You Love Your Natural Hair?

Lets be real, having natural hair isn’t always butterflies & cotton candy. There are times when we become frustrated, fed up, and just plan sick & tired of dealing with our hair.

With all that being said, and with the trials & tribulations you may be going through with your hair, do you still love it?

Despite my constant struggle with dryness & the fact that I must retwist each night to avoid having a full out “gumby” look in the morning, I love my hair. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Natural Hair Fall Protective Style

Do You Wear Protective Hairstyles?

Tons of ladies, relaxed & natural, swear by protective styling. If you have never heard of this method of hair styling let me explain.

A protective style is when your locs are placed in a hairstyle and the ends of the hair are tucked away. These hairstyles, whose main purpose is to help with length retention, can range from two strand twists pinned in an updo to hair placing your hair in a bun then a slapping on a fierce wig.

What’s Your Favorite Natural Hair Product Line

With so many natural hair care product lines on the market it’s hard to know which is the best or which ones pale in comparison to the rest.

In recent days I myself have realized that even knock off brands can surprise and disappoint.

Although I have tried tons of product lines, 80% of those listed in this weeks poll, I still have not been able narrow myself down to an absolute favorite line.
