Flat Twist Out with Take Command Curl Defining Creme

Yesterday’s Hair: Flat Twist Out with Curls Unleashed Take Command

Yesterday I sported one of my signature looks, a flat twist out.

Since my big chop in 2010, flat twist outs have been my go-to for defined & stretched hair.

I love the style plus, with a little re-twisting in the evening, a twist out can last for quite some time.

Normally, when flat twisting my hair, I use a mixture of conditioner, EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and a little aloe vera gel. But for this style I pulled out Curls Unleashed new Take Command Curl Defining Creme.

Top Knot Bun on Straightened Natural Hair

Yesterday’s Hair: Top Knot

I’ve always admired the look of a messy bun positioned on the top of a nicely dressed women’s head.

There is something about a “top knot” that I find wildly chic. To me it says, “I’m polished but, I don’t’ take myself too seriously.”

Ok, I may be reading a little too much into this hairstyle, but since my mane is currently straight I thought I would give the top knot a try.

Flat Three Strand Twist Out

Yesterday’s Hair: 30 Minutes Under the Dryer Just Doesn’t Cut It!

Tuesday night I took an hour and a half out of my self allotted “tv time” to wash and style my hair. I wanted to give any old style a try so I decided on three strand flat twist.

It had been a while since I flat twisted my hair so I was eager to get it done and see my results.

I used the same products and twisting techniques as I had before so I knew nothing could go wrong. I was completely incorrect.

Natural Hair Updo

Yesterday’s Hair: Updo Circa 1992

After wearing my hair in fuzzy two strand twist the majority of the holiday, (I was super lazy and didn’t feel like doing much of anything) I decided I was in much need of a decent hairstyle. Plus, I needed to go to the grocery store and for the life of me could not find my hat. :)

So, without a style in mind, I untwisted my hair and pulled out my stash of bobby pins.

Natural Hair Puff

Yesterday’s Hair: “Mega Puff”

As time progresses my hair continues to grow, and, so does my puff.

I love big hair. But, I found myself in a state of awe when I gazed upon the monstrous ball I sported on the top of my head yesterday.

This weekend I blew out my hair, to style it for a blown out twist-out (photos coming soon). Well, hours later I decided to pull my hair into a puff.

Second Day Twist Out

Yesterday’s Hair: Super Second Day Twist Out

While looking at my hair Monday I thought: “what parallel universe have I entered?” Really, what is going on?”

I was in a state of confusion because, for some reason, after using the same techniques and products, my twist out results were less than stellar.

I normally achieve the “look” I’m going for in my first day hair. But, for some strange reason, or wierd luck of fate, my first day hair was defined ball of frizz.

Flat Two Strand Twist in a Pony Tail

Yesterday’s Hair: “Princess Leia”

Last Friday, while sitting at my desk, a male a co-worker came up to me and said, “I like your hair like that Adrienne. You look like Princess Leia.”

Thinking back on my “Sideshow Bob episode“, I laughed and said thank you.

After he walked away, I couldn’t help but wonder how my flat two strand twists looked the same as Princess Leia’s huge buns on the side of her head.

I’m convinced that I am the official recipient of awkward hair comments… :)

Adrienne Brown Me, My Hair & the City

Yesterday’s Hair: New York Rain & Two Strand Twists

Yesterday evening, to get a jump-start on Fashion Week, I made the voyage from Atlanta to New York.

After checking the Weather Channel learning I was traveling into days of rain I decided to reevaluate my hair plans. To prepare my mane for the journey I opted out of wearing it out and wore two strand twist.

I rarely wear two-strand twist as a style. I find them to be beautiful on others but for some reason do not care to sport them myself. So, to camouflage my twists, and protect my hair from the rain and humidity, I covered some of my twists with a black corduroy hat.

Natural Hair in Banana Clip

Yesterday’s Hair: Banana Clip!

A few days ago my hair was on day 3 of a twist out and had begun to loose its appeal. I didn’t have much time for a wash so I channeled my inner 80’s exercise instructor and pulled out my banana clip.

I sectioned a circular potion of my hair in the front and then pulled the rest back into a ponytail. To pull my hair back I placed water and a few drops of Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk in my hand and smoothed my hair. I did not use a brush; only my hands.

Natural Hair Puff

Yesterday’s Hair: Dryness & a Puff

Lately I have found myself dealing with dry and brittle hair. I am not sure if this is due to the intense heat, lack of moisture in the air, my less than frequent deep conditioning sessions, the current products I’m using or a combination of all three.

Either way, my hair isn’t quite feeling the way it usually does.

So, in an effort to jump start my hair hydration recovery, I have been spritzing it each morning with Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave-In-Conditioner and trying to manipulate it as little as possible.
